Uber recently announced plans to introduce domestic and international flight bookings in the UK. This strategic move aims to strengthen Uber’s position as a comprehensive travel “super app” that allows customers to seamlessly book entire trips across multiple modes of transportation.
With its new flight booking feature, Uber aims to complement its popular ride-sharing service to create a seamless door-to-door travel solution. To facilitate this expansion, Uber has partnered with online travel agency Hopper, which allows users to book flights directly through the app. Uber receives a small commission from each flight sale.
The introduction of flight bookings in the UK will further enhance Uber’s existing travel options for its users. In addition to train tickets on National Express and Megabus, as well as train journeys on the National Rail Network and Eurostar, users can now book flights through the Uber app.
Andrew Bream, general manager of Uber UK, said: “Our new functionality makes booking and managing air travel simple and stress-free, with the booking process taking less than a minute.
To use this new feature, UK residents only need to enter their travel details, including origin and destination, along with the intended date of travel. Uber has confirmed that users will have the flexibility to choose between a one-way and a return flight, while for major airlines they will be able to select seats directly within the app. Also keep an eye out for Uber Elevate, which uses copters for short flights.
