What makes a good travel consultant?

While skill sets can vary greatly from consultant to consultant, the best have three things in common, says Avoya Travel CEO Jeff Anderson: reliability, product knowledge and understanding people.

Anderson broached the subject in the 100th episode of “On Deck With Avoya: Your Weekly Travel Update,” which aired last month.

On reliability, Anderson said advisors need to be available and responsive to customers. In addition, the consumer must have more product knowledge than they can know on their own; He recommended that special training be given to new counsellors. Finally, he said, great mentors are those who describe themselves as “people”, easy to work with and have hospitality in them.

Avoya’s weekly video series on Facebook Live and Zoom will launch in October 2020, Avoya said in a release. Initially, it was designed as a way to keep agents up to date with vendor policies and current events. It has evolved into a weekly Q&A segment, with interviews with Avoya staff, members and industry personalities.

The show was moderated by Avoya’s director of network expansion, Chris Green. According to Avoya, “On Deck With Avoya” has accumulated nearly 150,000 impressions, more than 7,000 views and more than 100 subscribers on YouTube, with episodes archived.

“We’re thrilled to see the phenomenal growth of our once-small, epidemic-born weekly web series over the past two and a half years,” Green said in a statement.

In the 100th episode, Anderson also addressed the current landscape of travel advisories.

In the year He said 2022 ended well, especially since most of the restrictions on cruise ships had been lifted. Consumers continue to travel despite global problems such as oil prices, the war in Ukraine and inflation. Avoya expects this year’s surf season to be good.

He said the agency is struggling to meet the level of consumer demand it is seeing. As such, Avoya is building things from within to accommodate more consumer needs.
