Trip Advisor’s 2022 sales hit an all-time high

According to data from travel agency Intel Travel, total sales for 2022 reached $400 million through July, surpassing last year’s (previous) all-time high of $300 million.

That record-breaking amount represents a 55 percent increase over 2021 total sales and an 88 percent increase over 2019’s pre-pandemic total. Both previously held the record for InteleTravel, the world’s oldest and largest travel hosting agency.

Land based business This year is on the rise, 41 percent higher than last year’s total, and a 170 percent increase compared to 2019 volumes. To date, 2022’s top ground-based sales partners and preferred package providers include Apple Entertainment Group Vacations, Vacation Express, Delta Vacations and American Airlines Vacations.

Premium and luxury cruise sales This year to date is 39 percent higher than total 2019 sales. So far, this year’s top partners and preferred suppliers in the premium and luxury cruise segment include Azamara, Regent Seven Seas, Viking, Virgin Cruises and Windstar.

Top destinations In the year In 2022, InteleTravel US’s network of independent travel advisors will be booked by users in (in order) Jamaica, Cancun, Dominican Republic, Hawaii, Florida, Las Vegas, Europe, California and Asia.

“We’re having another record-breaking year, second only to the pandemic,” said Dave Spinelli, vice president of industry relations for Intel Travel. “Certainly our leisure travel growth is in land vacations as opposed to cruises. Last year we expected the shipping industry to come back with a vengeance. For us at least, that didn’t happen. But for 2022, like 2021, our packaged land vacation business has increased significantly.

Spinelli added: “There is a bright spot in our cruise business, but sales of our premium and luxury cruise line partners are performing well in 2022.” We believe there are a number of factors contributing to this sweet spot, but it only gets stronger over time. We are expecting the trend not to slow down due to shortage of US dollars, air and accommodation. We’re seeing more than we expect to hold a distant position in 2023 and 2024.

Ferrara also profoundly observed, “This human-powered model has thrived even during the worst times in our industry’s history. And that initiative, along with innovative learning strategies and exclusive vendor partner contracts, is driving the company and its consultants to the highest level of performance in our 31-year history. No other machine or website could connect with such consumers.
