My favorite black-owned places in London are a mix of food places and also art places because this has become my latest passion.
– Black cultural records – This community space in Brixton is known as the Home of Black British Culture. They have informative exhibits about the Windrush generation as well as other ways in which black people came to live in the UK through history and important events since then.
– Taffeta – An art gallery featuring works by contemporary artists of African descent. They usually have one main exhibition at a time.
– International Institute of Visual Arts (INIVA) – They offer residencies to British-born artists of African (and Asian) descent, often with free workshops and lectures.
– Prince of Peckham A vibrant black-owned pub in south London is fun for everything – brunches, football matches, weekend DJ events and your own party.
– Peckham Palms– An Afro hair, beauty and wellness space in Peckham with a wealth of talented black hairdressers. They also host events and community theater performances.
– Black sugar – Inspired by its owner’s West African roots, this incredible chocolate franchise also travels to South America. They also make amazing ice cream!
– Uncle John’s bakery – This family-owned Ghanaian bakery sells famous baked goods – I think the bread here is the best!
There are always interesting events and It pops up around London To enjoy the culture and other black-owned businesses.
These are two great examples. DLT Brunch (The next event celebrates Lewisham in August at the Horniman Museum, London’s cultural region – an incredible museum with always black exhibitions) and Black culture market Brixton is home to many black-owned businesses.
