Travel site Amadeus groups higher to provide BNPL

Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) company Uplift has partnered with travel platform Amadeus to offer customers in the US and Canada a press release on Thursday (September 15).

68% of travelers surveyed by Amadeus said they would spend more on travel if BNPL was an option. 49 percent of those surveyed said they would be more likely to purchase airline ancillary services.

Travel is often a big purchase for customers, especially those planning big trips. In recent years, there have been more options for BNPL, especially as customers have to tighten their belts due to the economy.

Amadeus brings BNPL services to the Amadeus Xchange Payment Platform (XPP), which airlines and travel companies use for everything from fraud to payment acceptance.

Travelers can choose to pay in installments over six, nine or 12 months.

“BNPL’s growth across all sectors is impressive and the message from travelers is clear – they want choice when it comes to paying for their travel,” said Beatrice Buju, Head of Partnerships at Amadeus. “Such payment options will help recover travel by facilitating demand for high value holidays as travel restrictions are lifted.”

Tom Botts, Uplift’s chief commercial officer, said that travelers seem to enjoy paying per class because of its stress-relieving potential.

“Travel providers who now rely on the Amadeus Xchange payment platform can add Uplift’s flexible payments quickly and easily, immediately benefiting from stronger customer loyalty and increased bookings,” he said.

BNPL services grew by 226% in the second quarter, and it can be said that the payment pattern during the summer holidays was helping boost travel. Uplift is one of those that have partnered with various airlines and travel agencies.

Speaking of the shipping-related partnership earlier this year, Uplift said: “This new payment offering gives customers the benefit of saving on shipping experiences by spreading the cost over simple monthly payments. “Additionally, with Uplift’s pay-as-you-go option, customers can easily upgrade to a larger cabin, add onboard amenities, or take shore excursions for just a few more dollars a month.”
