She credits her parents, Carrie and Zeke, and her sisters, Zoe and Sophie, for their guidance as she worked hard to get through high school. And now, she’s looking to a future in data science.
Billinglia said she was “blessed and honored” to be named Troup High’s valedictorian.
“It was really fun but a little stressful. I think it’s great to get this honor — it’s been a lot of work, and I feel blessed to have it all,” Bilinslia said. “I feel like everything is worthwhile and falling into place now.”
While writing her commencement speech, Billingslia said she created a few rough drafts.
“Now, I’ve made points about what I want to say, and I have a few ideas,” Bilinslia said. “It’s taking some time, but I’m trying to figure out how to connect it all and make it flow better.”
Billingslia said she credits her family for her academic success.
“I wouldn’t be where I am without my parents. Although they are somewhat strict, they give me the opportunity to do what I want to do and instead of pressuring me to do it, they push me. They are happy as long as I do my best,” Bilinslia said.
“My older sister Zoe was a big influence on me and really helped me choose the subjects I should study. Whenever I need help with something or have a problem, she is always there for me – so is my younger sister, Sophie.
During her high school years, Billinslea was involved in many organizations, including troop ambassadors, Beta Club, sorority, National Honor Society, and during her freshman and junior years, volleyball.
As her time in high school draws to a close, Billinglia says she misses her friends the most.
“I’m definitely going to miss how close everyone is. Madison (Salutatorian) and I have had the same class since sixth grade, and I’ve really grown to connect with a lot of the people I’ve shared classes with. I’m going to miss those friendships,” Bilinslia said.
After graduation, Billinglia said she plans to attend Georgia Tech and major in mathematics.
“I want to go into data science. It’s like business, computer science, and math, and I felt that majoring in math with a focus on statistics would help prepare me for that. I also love math and felt like I was pretty good at it,” Bilinslia said.
As the Class of 2024 waits for their turn on the big stage, Billinslea has a few things to offer.
“Don’t be afraid to try new things and push yourself to do well because people can do more than they think. Also, make sure you make time to maintain your relationships with your friends and family,” she says.
