HONOLULU (Hawaii News Now) – This native Hawaiian fashion designer is about to make history.

Kumu Micah Kamohoalii is about to embark on a European fashion tour to showcase his Hawaiian designs.

He will debut his new collection at London Fashion Week on September 17.

A week after that, Kamohoali’s designs will hit the catwalks at Milan Fashion Week. He will soon close his tour at Paris Fashion Week.

Excitement is in the air for the designer and his team as 30 Hawaiian models and musicians prepare to travel by train to Europe.

His one-of-a-kind clothing, Designs by Kamohoalii, brings Native Hawaiians to life with traditional designs, bold colors, metaphorical imagery and strong cultural symbolism.

Kamohoali says he will bring the essence of Hawaii to Europe on his European Fashion Tour featuring Hawaiian runway models (including his immediate family), kapa beating, singing and performances by award-winning singers and dancers in a 3-part cultural show performing ancient and modern dances from Su Halau na Kipupupu.

“I like to take organized models,” added Kamahoali. “I love taking real, real people and real Hawaiians. And I had to teach my aunt how to walk in heels, stilettos and, you know, boots.”

By participating in European Fashion Week, Kamohoalii hopes to provide awareness and education about Hawaiian fashion, art and culture.

In addition to his European tour, the fashion designer opened his first two new stores on Oahu – one at Pearlridge Center and the other at Windward Mall.

He said their biggest challenge, next to fundraising, is getting shoes.
