The US State Department has updated travel advisories for Cuba, Saudi Arabia, and more

The US State Department earlier this week announced updated advisories to five countries, including Cuba and Saudi Arabia.

According to the State Department’s official website, the African nation of Namibia has moved to the “Level 1: Take Standard Precautions” category, the lowest level of advisory for safety and security concerns.

The government is advising the government to be aware of the high risks to safety and security when visiting three destinations in the “level 2: increased caution” category: Benin, Cuba and Ecuador.

As for Saudi Arabia, the US State Department has moved the country into the “Level 3: Reconsider Travel” category, citing “threats of missile and drone attacks on civilian facilities” and “terrorism” while warning American travelers.

Last week, the State Department issued its annual update to its travel advisory for Mexico, which included three Mexican states—Nayarit, Estado de Mexico, and Coahuila—thanks to improved security.

The government also stated that six Mexican states are on the do not travel list for US citizens; Colima, Guerrero, Michoacan, Sinaloa, Tamaulipas and Zacatecas. According to Ken Salazar, the US ambassador to Mexico, the regions are at high risk for crime, kidnapping and cartel-related activities.
