The CV-19 epidemic has led to another evolution in the ever-changing role of the corporate enterprise architect.
In recent years, Enterprise Architects (EA) have shifted from the role of technology control to responsibilities that are in line with business strategy. But for many, current trends have changed that, as corporations have increased their cloud services, emphasized their safety, and adopted a distant work culture during the outbreak, according to a recent study published by Forrest Research Inc. in Cambridge, Mass.
“Many companies have entered the survival mode,” said Gordon Barnett, chief analyst at Forster.
The role of a dynamic enterprise architect
According to a Forrest study titled “EA 2022 State”, the number of EAs set to influence business strategy and business projects between 2021 and 2022 has dropped from 15% to 7%. Business projects have declined from 28 percent to 14 percent. In addition, 67% of EA leaders have significantly increased their focus on technology strategy.
When times are hard and money is tight, companies are less talkative and talk more about their main line. The situation at Southwest Airlines was similar at the time of the outbreak, and customers canceled or canceled flights. Christian Holston, senior enterprise architect at Dallas Southwest Airlines, said the company had temporarily suspended its expansion plans.
“We rationalized rather than modernized,” Holston said.

He said the broad technology vision will give senior executives some insight into what is happening outside their own section and provide some insight into the risks in other parts of the company.

Not every industry has suffered as much as air travel. There has been a slight disruption in the business strategy of some companies, and the focus of the enterprise architect has remained intact.

The complexity of EA
Forrester puts Ian as four architects, and each of them values the organization, Barnett said. Brandal currently manages a team of up to six applications and technical architects. “Collaborating and delivering EA is our job,” he said. “Not just for security, but a complete set of layers.”
Special EA tool usage is low.
The most difficult challenge for EA is to keep it up-to-date with all the company’s stakeholders. There are tools that specialize in this function, especially in the market. But Forster reports that 53% of companies use Microsoft Suite for EA operations.
That figure is down 70% from last year, which Barnett estimates could be due to a significant EA strike during the epidemic. According to Barnett, about 30% of companies use the EA tool. “You don’t see the benefit or the price is too high,” he said.
But commercial equipment can provide a simpler interface and better reporting, according to South West Holston, which uses German-made software for Linux.
