In November 2021, nearly a year and a half after digital health company founder Beau Mann disappeared from his Uber ride, authorities found his body in a yard near an abandoned building in Santa Monica.

Mann’s family said in a statement Sunday that the 39-year-old’s remains were located at the 2900 block of Santa Monica Boulevard, less than a mile from where an Uber dropped him off on Nov. 30, 2021.

“His identity was confirmed through dental records. At this time, we do not have any further details on the cause of his death,” the statement said.

“Beau was a beautiful soul who spent the better part of his life helping others,” the statement continued. “We miss his contagious smile and positive attitude every day. We know his spirit lives on in his company and passion as he continues to help those under the grip of addiction at Sober Grid.

Mann founded SoberGrid in 2015 as a way to help people struggling with addiction meet and connect. Users can choose to remain anonymous or use their real names.

According to a statement from SoberGrid, Mann had stopped at 7/11 not far from his office around 2:00 p.m. before getting into an Uber.

“He texted 911 while in the Uber. He was dropped off in Santa Monica. Despite efforts to locate him, Beau was never heard from again,” the statement said.

The company describes Mann as “light.”

“After struggling with drugs and addiction in his early years, he turned his focus and passion to helping others. In 2015, he created his first digital app.

Sober Grid has “saved thousands of lives” and “will continue to save thousands more,” the company said.

His remains were found at 2900 Santa Monica Boulevard, about a mile from where Uber dropped him off on November 30, 2021.
