The Otters won the series in walk-off fashion

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The Evansville Otters used all nine innings to get the job done Thursday night, earning a 6-5 win over the Windy City Thunderbolts in the bottom of the 9th.

Windy City got the first offense of the game and scored the opening run in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI single by Brian Spillane.


The Otters pulled back in the middle of the fourth inning, scoring the game-tying run on an error by T-Bolts right fielder Bran Martinez. Later in the game, Evansville took the lead on Jeffrey Baez’s RBI fielder’s choice.

But in the top of the fifth, Windy City immediately struck out after loading the bases on three singles. Spillane continued his big day with great success as he put the Thunderbolts up 5-2.

The Otters returned the favor in the back half when Brian Rosario drew a bases-loaded walk. George Khalil scored the second run on a wild pitch from Dazon Cole.

A 5-4 Windy City lead extended into the eighth inning as the Otters pushed for their next run. After a base walk and steal, Elijah McNamee tied the game at 5-5 with an RBI single.

The Otters loaded the bases in the ninth, looking for a game-winning hit. With one out, Miles Gordon beat Evansville 6-5 when Miles Gordon beat the throw and Baez sent a weak fly ball into left field. It was the second walk-off win for Evansville in 2022.

The win went to Logan Sawyer, who scored the final ninth place finish for Evansville. The crash happened near Layne Schnitz-Paxton in the Windy City.

With the win, Evansville swept the midweek series and the season series over the Thunderbolts.

The Evansville Otters are the 2006 and 2016 Frontier League champions.
