JW Anderson’s fashion show features clothes made from computer keys

British fashion brand JW Anderson created a “parallel world of people trapped in their computers” for their Spring Summer 2023 collection at London Fashion Week.

The legendary fashion house JW Anderson, led by designer Jonathan Anderson, presented its Spring Summer 2023 collection on Saturday 17th September at the Las Vegas Strip in London’s Soho.

The collection was a commentary on humanity’s relationship with technology and consumerism, and included several pieces that used materials and images in an authentic way.

The brand’s show notes describe the concept as follows: “A parallel world of people trapped in their computers, mixing with keyboards and screensavers, exploring other dimensions. Nature filtered by the digital ego, becomes a personal guarantee. An arcade, after all, not. Only for gamers.”

It was a commentary on a world bound by technology.

Adorned with giant computer keys and interrupted by colorful and purposefully wrinkled skirts, these were lined up between arcade machines.

One piece featured hundreds of computer keys from the now obsolete off-white desktop computers, lined up in horizontal rows to form a helter-skelter neck.

Sillhouettes, prints, materials and shapes had a realistic look

The proportions in the show were excessive. A picture was published of a baby boy holding a goldfish in a bag full of water with a plastic bag-like dress tied around his shoulders.

“Mega-scale, decadent technology that shimmers and shines,” JW Anderson said of the pieces.

“Objects embedded in clothing items and screensavers that rest on the body, on bags and accessories: that’s what happened in the game center,” the brand continued.

“The message is unreal—at least what a realist can say today—in reductive language that charges every episode with a clear level of description.”

Some classes refer to people who are obsessed with technology, while others refer to real-life leisure activities.

A string hammer was worn as clothing, while images of palm tree-lined beaches – similar to those often used for screen savers – adorned bodysuits and accessories.

“Entertainment is important, so it’s going to be a hammered dress, jammies and tees hanging on the laundry,” said the fashion brand.

The show incorporated everyday objects such as clothes.

Just as in JW Anderson’s Spring Summer 2023 menswear collection, the designer suspended bicycle handlebars from the body, while hangers were interpreted as collars for sweaters hung upside down.
