Small businesses are a huge economic force in Northland, and there are a wide variety of unique, diverse businesses and diverse entrepreneurs.
The third annual Northland Black Business Show returns this Saturday from 1-4pm at The Depot, with the fashion show taking place at 1:30pm.
The event was created by Kia Racing as a platform for local black businesses. Working with Ronning is Paz Davila, operations manager at the Family Freedom Center in Duluth.
Davila shares how the event has grown over the past two years. “The first year’s goal was to highlight different businesses, small businesses, people of color here in Duluth. This year’s goal is to get more businesses involved and highlight more small businesses in the area. The culture here, the diversity of individuals, and the fact that there’s a lot that people in the area don’t know about Duluth. People show up. People who are doing great things and great things and are creative but also inspiring to the young people here.
Running a business isn’t easy and first-time event host Timothy McCree says the show is about learning how to grow their company. “I really enjoyed the interaction and being able to see other entrepreneurs on their own time. So that I can just sit and watch and learn different things like sales algorithm etc. I’m also excited for people to be able to see what I have to offer.
This event is designed to be an inspiration, but also an opportunity to celebrate businesses that have been a part of our community for a long time.
“A lot of black businesses have been around for a long time. They’ve never had the look or the people to come in, or they don’t even know how to start integrating into the city. Our goal is to help them know they’re visible and help others see them. You know, not just as black-owned, but as a business. ,” Pease shared.
