RWe’re not ready, we’re on the cusp of New York Fashion Week. It kicks off this Friday, September 9th with the Proenza Schouler Show and ends on Wednesday, September 14th with the grand finale of Tom Ford. The Pantone Color Institute has released its sneak peek at the colors you’ll see a lot on the runways this year. Consider it a preview of what your wardrobe should include for spring and summer 2023.
What colors did the Pantone Color Institute pick in its Spring/Winter 2023 fashion color trend report? It’ll be a sorbet shop where saturated colors meet grandma’s beach-bought colors. Don’t worry, everything will be done.
Top 10 popular colors are vivid tones including Fiery Red and Beetroot Purple. Bold tangelo orange and peachy pink sorbet shades flow into lemony “light streaked” empire yellow and the ultra unique Lovebird. Pantone’s chosen colors are no shrinking violets. In fact, purple will get a complete hard pass next spring.
Then you have the new classics that lead us straight to beachy granny chic – neutrals and earthy charms.
Pantone gives a clear guide to neutrals by drawing only two colors, white-white. They predict that it will be something new for spring. Taking off-white and adding color to create a neutral that works with everything. These off-white hues of gray lilac and vanilla cream offer a clean and simple contrast with bolder highlights. There is a southern patio shade called Skylight Blue. And an off-brown macchiato shade “with a layer of foam” just begs for a stroll on the beach.
These spring shades will definitely be seen on the runways during fashion week. Pantone is often wrong. You see colors that express freedom and courage. From energy to stability. From chaos to silence.
It’s a different fashion week preview.
New York Fashion Week’s first schedule includes 110 confirmed designers. This year’s 60th annual Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) will serve as the organizer and official scheduler (Lord of the Rings, if you will) of fashion’s biggest circus.
Now, we know which colors will come.
