SATA Azores Airlines, in partnership with the Madeira Promotion Association, has announced the launch of a new weekly, year-round service between Madeira (FNC) and New York (JFK) beginning November 3, 2022.

The route operates on Airbus A321neo aircraft with a capacity of 190 seats during the winter season.

“After having direct flights between Madeira and JFK Airport from November 2022, we will create conditions to continuously expand connections from one station to another, which is important for those who want to travel and for the market,” said Eduardo Jesus, president of the Madeira Promotion Association.

For the winter season, the airline offers transatlantic services to Boston (BOS), Toronto (YYYY) and New York (JFK).

SATA Azores Airlines, in partnership with tour operator InnovTravel, launched its first weekly non-stop flight between Madeira (Funchal) and New York (FJK) on 29 November.

A total of 4,041 passengers were served by 19 flights during this period.

SATA Azores Airlines served Boston to Funchal in 2005, 2006, 2016, and 2017, but its main routes to North America are mainly via Ponta Delgada and Teresira in the Azores, with connections to Boston and Toronto. The airline has a long history of serving the US and Canada from Ponta Delgada, a city in the Azores.
