John and Martha King founded King Schools 48 years ago as a combination of their passion for aviation and teaching and their entrepreneurial spirit. On Thursday in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, at the AAA, the world’s largest conference in the country.

LIFT: How to Start, Run and Grow Your Own Successful Business Throughout their time together, the Kings observed the guiding principles by which they established and grew their businesses—a life in which they purposefully worked as entrepreneurs and partners in every way.

Barry Knutilla, CEO of King’s Schools, gave the preview, which included two gems found in:

  • “You have an incredible opportunity. You live in a time and place where you can pursue your passion for improving your life and the lives you touch and start your own business,” John and Martha write in the book’s introduction.
  • “In aviation and business, you always need to make corrections along the way. But in flight, when you’re a good pilot in a well-designed airplane—just like a good entrepreneur running a well-designed company, you can make the kind of progress that others can only dream of.”

The book is dedicated to two people who have been critical to their success—and who provide another guiding principle they hold dear, to hire and work with people who are more gifted and talented than themselves. The first, Dave Jackson, is the former CEO of King Schools, and he brings his deep experience in video production and his honest nature to the business. Second, Cunutilla, who is the current CEO, brought his expertise in technology development to King’s schools when the company needed to transition its courses from VHS to online delivery.

LIFT It will be available on Amazon in October.
