Ashland, Ohio – Michigan Tech women’s basketball snapped a four-game winning streak at Charles Cates Gymnasium with a 77-49 loss at No. 2 Ashland on Thursday night.
Annie Roshack led the Eagles with 16 points as Ashland shot 50 percent from the floor and went 13-0. Katelyn Meister had a solid effort for Tech with 15 points, five rebounds, but the Huskies fell to 10-3 overall.
The Eagles scored a breakaway in the second quarter, outscoring the Huskies 21-10 in a ten-minute stretch with seven offensive rebounds in the first half. Ashland collected 42 rebounds in the game, compared to 31 for Michigan Tech, and forced 15 turnovers.
Ashland’s constant high ball pressure forced MTU into opposing shot attempts from the 3-point line, making just five of 25 attempts (20 percent).
Meanwhile, the Eagles connected on 10 of 24 attempts from downtown (42 percent), including three by Morgan Yoder, who finished with nine points. The African Union bench also contributed 34 points, with Zoe Miller scoring 15 with eight rebounds.
Ashland had never led by as many as 32 early in the fourth quarter. Ashland’s win was the first meeting between the two since the 2020-21 NCAA Midwest Region Tournament semifinals. The Huskies have won at Ashland just three times in the last 20 years.
Michigan Tech (10-2) continues on the road against Walsh (5-6) on Saturday. Ashland (13-0) resumes Saturday against West Liberty (6-4) at 12:30 p.m.
