Wilmington, NC — The No. 11 Virginia Tech softball team closed out its opening weekend in run regulation with a 9-0 win over Purdue Fort Wayne in five innings. The Hokies started scoring in the first inning when Bailey tripled to Ritter. From there, Tech tacked on runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings, with their biggest score coming in the third when they scored five times. Tech will travel to Florida next weekend to compete in the TaxAct Clearwater Invitational, where they will play five games starting the weekend. The Hokies will face Oklahoma State, Nebraska, UCLA, Arizona and USF from a season ago. The Cowgirls, Bruins and Wildcats all advanced to the World Series.
