new york – Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana held a press conference on Wednesday announcing the finalists for the upcoming Sustainable Fashion Awards.
The luncheon was held at Casa Cipriani in Lower Manhattan’s Seaport neighborhood and brought together executives from CFDA, Launchmetrics and more. As last year, the Italian fashion department will partner with the UN Ethical Fashion Initiative for sustainability awards, in collaboration with previous partners including Eco-Edge. This year’s support comes from the Italian Trade Agency, among other government groups.

This year, the actor Rossi de Palma will host the award on September 25 at the La Scala Theater, which will close the Milan Fashion Week.
This year’s Sustainable Fashion Awards will feature 12 awards, including the Visionary Award, Human Rights Award and Emerging Designer Award. The last ceremony was held digitally in 2020 due to the pandemic, but he has promised to end the show this year.
At the lunch, Desiree Bollier, Chair of Bicester Village Value Retail Management and Luxury Shopping Centre, announced the three winners of the Bicester Collection Awards for Emerging Designers. Sustainable Nigerian brand Nkwo; and Themoire, a Milan-based fashion project that aims to create a minimal environmental impact. The winners will receive consulting, manufacturing and distribution opportunities.
The judging and advisory committee includes Simon Cipriani, founder of the Ethical Fashion Initiative, Dame Ellen MacArthur and Samatha Pattinson’s red carpet green dress, as well as non-profit organizations such as Textile Exchange and Repair. The designer applicant pool was narrowed down to a shortlist of over 300 candidates powered by data partner Quntis.
Carlo Capassa is the chairman of the country’s fashion association, which has an impressive executive board, including Prada’s Patrizio Bertelli (co-CEO with wife Miuccia Prada), Gucci’s Marco Bizzarri and Ermenegildo Zegna.
As Cassa said in the opening remarks, the CNMI Sustainable Fashion Awards is important to measure the state of the industry in terms of sustainability, but also inclusion and diversity. Since its inception, the CNMI has developed comprehensive guidelines in areas such as chemical management that are used by 92 percent of the Italian supply chain in fashion.
Kasa summed up how common the group’s thinking was..
“In Italy we are very individualistic. This idea of cooperation was not so simple in the beginning,” he said. “They found that with sustainability you either put it all together or you don’t. No one can say ‘I am sustainable’, if the whole chain is not sustainable, the whole process is sustainable, the whole distribution is sustainable. It does not work alone. That is why I say we must cooperate. Ourselves, the CFDA — because we all represent one community. We must work together.
