There are always a few days in the summer when it feels like you can’t get out the door without breaking a sweat in an instant. Some years have hotter days than others, but luckily, there are some amazing technologies that can make your home even more of a beautiful paradise.

Most of these items are intended for use in your home, such as a portable air conditioner or a cooling mattress topper. But it’s impossible to stay indoors all summer, so we’ve included some cute things to keep with you when you’re out and about, like a water bottle to hydrate you both and a nice mist to spray on your face.

For rooms that don’t seem cool: Portable AC

Unless you’re very lucky, most people in the US have a working air conditioning unit in their home. Sometimes trying to cool a large house or apartment with a poor system is useless and very expensive. If you have a small apartment or spend most of your time in one room of your home, consider running a portable air conditioner.

This Black+Decker solid unit is one of the best portable air conditioners out there because it’s reliable, easy to use, and cools your room down to 64 degrees Fahrenheit. This particular model is rated at 12000 BTU ASHRAE (or 5950 BTU DOE), but Black + Decker has other options with different power ratings as well as heating options with refrigeration included.

It cools up to 300 square feet of space, so whether you’re in a dorm room, a small apartment, a camping cabin, or a one-bedroom in a house, Black+Decker’s portable AC unit will get the job done. The unit works as an AC, fan and dehumidifier, so your space stays cool and clean. And although you can use the touch controls and the LED display on it, there is also a remote control, so you can stay in bed or on the couch while you lower the temperature.

In addition to being easy to use, it has wheels so it’s easy to install (and move). It’s 60 pounds, but once you set it up, you can roll it from room to room. You just need to find a place near a socket to attach the included hose and window adapter. Maintenance is also extremely easy. Simply slide the filter twice a month, rinse it under running water and put it back.

Always drink cold drinks

It’s not the worst thing to have a nice frozen soda pop into your fridge, only to realize it isn’t. But it’s even worse when it happens in summer when you want that iced drink to keep you cool.

While other beverage coolers use synthetic gels with chemicals, this one works with just water, meaning it’s completely dishwasher safe.
