A blessing work was held at the university Hawaii To celebrate Tom’s renovation, which was completed on August 11 at the Manoa Shidler College of Business WS He undergraduate computer department to state-of-the-art facility. The $600,000 lab renovation was funded by the estate of Clifford and Blanche Hay and named in honor of their son. Tom HiAn admirable alumnus of the college and an accomplished banker, computer expert and community minded volunteer.
The lab upgrade includes a complete renovation and modernization of the space, with sleek new furniture, upgraded computer systems, sound dampening technology, large digital displays and flexible workspaces designed for team collaboration. Additional Bloomberg terminals were added for students to conduct advanced financial analysis projects. The renovation was managed by Bowers + Kubota Consulting, which transformed the space into a modern yet functional workspace for current and future students.
“The transformation of this much-used student space is amazing to witness,” said Shidler’s dean of business. Vance Rowley. “Every day students rely on the computer lab for projects, teamwork, research and more, and now they have a modern and functional space to be proud of. We are grateful to the Hee family for their generosity and honored to be able to remember Tom Hee in this meaningful way.”
“I am delighted that Shidler has dedicated this new undergraduate computer lab to current and future students,” said Tony Ching, trustee and brother of Blanche Hee. “My nephew Tom Hee lived with many challenges, but he did not let these obstacles define his life. While Tom and his parents won’t be here to witness the change, I know they are celebrating the arrival of ideas and technology to improve our community’s learning and development.
“It is exciting that the He family’s legacy to honor their son’s memory will expand and upgrade the much-used computer lab to benefit hundreds of Shidler undergraduates beginning in the new school year,” he said. Tim Dolan, UH Vice President of Development and General manager of UH Foundation. “His generosity, which has provided scholarships to more than ten Shidler students, ensures that Tom’s legacy will support many more students going forward.”

Clifford and Blanche Hay originally established the endowed scholarship in 2002 for their sons, Tom and Michael Hay, who sadly passed away as a result of complications from hemophilia. The estate later bequeathed $2 million to the college for additional student scholarships as well as the updating and naming of the undergraduate computer lab to honor Tom Hinn’s leadership and legacy.
Tom Hee graduated in 1978 with a degree in accounting and management information systems. During his academic career, he co-founded the Management Information Systems Club and received the Outstanding Management Information Systems Award at Business Night. He had a successful career at First Hawaii Bank, rising to vice president in the control department. Tom Hee selflessly served the community as president. Hawaii Jaycees and the Honolulu Marathon Association. He was a strong advocate and volunteer for the Hemophilia Foundation. Tom was the founder and co-owner of Star Computer.
