Searching multiple airlines for a deal is something every traveler has tried. Do you know which airport the fares fly from? A new report from FinanceBuzz reveals the 5 airports with the cheapest average prices and which airports are the most expensive to fly from. The study looked at the 45 busiest airports in the United States and determined which are the best to fly to for travelers trying to save money.
It is not always possible to choose a different airport to disembark from, especially for travelers in cities with only one option. However, some of the airports with the cheapest average fares were from cities with more than one airport. When researching an upcoming trip, this information provides one more way to track down the ultimate savings. With inflation and travel costs rising, Any method to save money is worth investigating.
Top 5 airports from The cheapest Average prices
1) Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport (FL) – Florida
Average air fare 233.36 dollars
FLL is a popular airport serving both the Fort Lauderdale and Miami area. There are three airports you can use in Miami, and two are in the top five for the cheapest average fares. If flying from Miami, Fort Lauderdale’s Hollywood International Airport (FL) and Miami International Airport (MIA) can both be cheaper than using the local third airport, Palm Beach International (PBI).
2) Orlando International Airport (MCO) – Florida
Average air fare 241.01 dollars
MCO is one of the busiest airports in the United States and serves as the gateway to world-famous theme parks such as Disney World and Universal Studios. Two airports serve the Orlando area, with Orlando Sanford International Airport (SFB) being the second. If you’re flying out of Orlando, MCO is probably a cheaper option.
3) Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) – Nevada
Average air fare 247.53 dollars
Last year, LAS ranked the airport with the cheapest average fares. However, the MCO and FLL have raised the bar to claim the title. Las Vegas still offers some of the cheapest prices in the country, though. Several other airports serve the Las Vegas area, but Las Vegas offers the cheapest average prices. The rest of the Las Vegas airports didn’t break the top 45 airports with the cheapest average price.
4) Miami International Airport (MIA) – Florida
Average air fare 263.76 dollars
The second airport serving the Miami area, MIAA, is as busy as Orlando International Airport. The airport is slightly closer to downtown Miami than Fort Lauderdale’s Hollywood International Airport (FL). However, if the fares from FLL are much cheaper at the time of research, getting into the city is not much different from either airport.
5) Tampa International Airport (TPA) – Florida
Average air fare 270.88 dollars
Tampa International Airport (TPA) serves alongside St. Petersburg-Clearwater International Airport (PIE) and is the closest to downtown. Fares can be cheaper to get out of TPA. Still, travelers can find an occasional deal that’s better than PEE through budget carrier Allegiant, which doesn’t serve TPA.
Travelers are sure to get some of the best deals when departing from the airports listed above, but it’s important to know which airports to avoid if possible. The airports below are ranked at the bottom of the list for airports with the lowest average cost.

Average air fare 400.66 dollars
3) Detroit Metro Airport (DTW) – Michigan

Average air fare 364.40 dollars
5) John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) – New York
Average air fare 360.94 dollars
No matter how difficult traveling has been this winter, any tips or tricks to help cut costs and ease the travel experience are worth trying. Airports with the lowest average cost provide another aspect to consider when booking flights. If you’re flying this winter, try to avoid checking bags and make sure you know your passenger rights before you take off in case something goes wrong.
