For fashion enthusiasts, September is packed with notable industry events. First up was New York Fashion Week, which officially closed last week. Next, the Council of Fashion Designers of America announced the lineup of nominees and honorees for the awards ceremony. (The actual event will be held Nov. 7 at Casa Cipriani in NYC.) This year’s list of nominees for the 2022 CFDA Fashion Awards, in partnership with Amazon Fashion, includes luminaries such as Christopher John Rogers, Laquan Smith and Telfar Clemens. All are driving the industry forward.

“This year’s nominees reflect the new excitement around American fashion, created by designers who are redefining the future of our industry,” CFDA CEO Steven Kolb said in a statement. “[What’s more]The 2022 CFDA Fashion Awards will not only celebrate the best and brightest talent in American fashion, but will also celebrate the CFDA’s 60th anniversary.

The event will be co-hosted by CFDA members Joseph Altuzarra, Gabriela Hearst, Aurora James, Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCullough. Additionally, the council added a one-time special celebration award to designer and long-time CFDA member Jeffrey Banks. As far as new titles go, the committee introduced the Stylist Award, with Lou Roach (who works with the likes of Zendaya, Kerry Washington and Emma Watson) its first recipient. The late Virgil Abloh will receive a posthumous award from the Board of Trustees for his contributions to international fashion. And of course, the board will also give out awards in the usual categories of womenswear, menswear, accessories and emerging talent honoring designers of the year.

Clemens, who won the 2020 American Accessories Designer Award And 2021, is up for the same award again this year. Aurora James, co-founder of Brother Vellis and founder of 15 percent pledge, is joining a creator called “Telfeezy” in the accessories category. Meanwhile, designers such as Kate Kathryn Holstein, Peter Doe, Gabriella Hearst and Christopher John Rogers are among the contenders for American Womenswear Designer of the Year for the second year in a row. (Rogers took home the coveted award in 2021.)
