Houghton, Mich – The Michigan Tech Nordic Ski Teams will return home by playing host to the 2023 Toyota US Cross Country Ski Show presented by Hampton Inn & Suites of Houghton. The event will be held from January 2-7.

“This is the sixth time Michigan Tech has hosted the US Cross Country Skiing National Championships and this is the largest official attendance we’ve ever had,” said head coach Tom Monahan Smith.
The event will be attended by more than 470 athletes, 130 coaches and presenters along with 100 volunteers.
The past tense
The Huskies continued to impress with a team win at the Pre-Nationals CCSA Invitational/CXC Cup on Dec. 17-18 at Tech Tracks in their second contest of the season.
Assistant coach Christine Monahan Smith added, “We’ve seen some really amazing performances—some athletes had the best races of their careers, and it was great to see the semester and finals come to a close in just a few weeks. “I think it’s a big confidence booster for our team and going into nationals everyone should be very confident, especially on our home courses.”
The black and gold saw three individual winners, with Olivia Lavigne winning the women’s freestyle interval start, while Annabelle Needham took bronze on the podium.
Henriette Semb finished fourth in the competition, while Kat Stow finished second in the U20 competition, finishing 10th overall.
In the men’s freestyle gap start, Skylar Patten took gold, with teammate Trig Solberg third.
Following the podium finishers was an additional pack of Huskies, as Michigan Tech took seven of the top-10 spots. Colin Freed and Adam Witkowski were off the podium, finishing fourth and fifth respectively. Henry Snider, Wes Campbell and Yannick Pauchard finished seventh, eighth and tenth in the race.
Campbell also took silver for his efforts in the U20 field.
On the second day of competition, the third individual was victorious in Needham, winning the freestyle race. Two other Huskies cracked the top-five, while Semb and Stow took fourth and fifth, respectively.
The men’s freestyle sprint featured the Huskies stacking up more competitors in the semifinals as Witkowski advanced to the finals.
