Technological services and manufacturing power sector-level employment gains
Downers Grove, ill., May 5, 2023 /PRNewswire/ — Technology services, technology manufacturing and cloud infrastructure jobs increased for the month, while a broader measure of technology employment in the economy took a breather, according to an analysis by CompTIA, a nonprofit association of the information technology (IT) industry and workforce.
Tech sector companies boosted their workforce by 18,795 positions in April, the highest monthly hiring in months. August 2022, CompTIA shows data from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics’ #jobs report. New hiring of technology infrastructure, manufacturing and service workers led the growth, according to Compta’s “Tech Jobs Report.”
Tech jobs retreated across the economy, down 99,000 positions.1 The unemployment rate for tech jobs is up to 2.3%, still below the national unemployment rate (3.4%).
“It was another well-known month with mixed labor market signals,” he said Tim Herbert.“Job opportunities in the incredibly strong tech sector have been offset by the disruption in tech hiring across the economy,” said CompTIA’s chief research officer.
Employers listed more than 300,000 job postings for tech positions in April, indicating continued demand for tech talent.[2]
Three job categories in the technology sector led the fastest April hiring, IT services and custom software development (+12,700). Job growth was also reported in cloud infrastructure, data processing and hosting (+7,300) and PC, semiconductor and components manufacturing (+3,200).
Employer job postings for technology positions are widely dispersed geographically and by industry. Employers in management and support (32,861), finance and insurance (32,820) and manufacturing (31,959) were among the most active last month.
Among the metropolitan markets, Washington, New York City, Dallas, Angels And Chicago It had the highest job postings. Dallas, Houston, Philadelphia, Boston And Seattle It saw the biggest increase in tech job postings in a month.
The number of tech job postings that describe remote work or hybrid work arrangements as an option continued to rise in April – with more than 65,000 positions across the country, software developers, IT project managers, data analysts and new technologies are on the list.
