Longtime Tampa Bay Tech CEO Jill St. Thomas, who has been at the forefront of establishing the region as a competitive tech destination, is stepping down.
“I felt it was time. We’ve done a lot, especially building this brand and the Tampa tech hub,” said St. Thomas. Her last day in the top post will be Aug. 5.
In her role as a nonprofit for 10 years, and for the past six years, St. Thomas has accomplished much during the pandemic, including transitioning the organization’s attraction events into virtual events, growing memberships and partnerships, and launching its first ever event. Autism@Career Initiative in Tampa Bay with local tech companies and university partners.
She said she plans to stay with her family in the area and that various opportunities have been presented to her.

St. Thomas is passing the reins to interim CEO Virginia Lee, who has worked at Tampa Bay Tech for more than eight years and served on the executive committee for the past 5 years.
“My goal is to better educate the public and connect the tech community,” said Lee, a technologist by trade.
Tampa Bay Tech will form a search committee to find its next permanent CEO.
Today, Tampa Bay Tech has more than 145 member companies representing thousands of technology workers. It also offers annual programs and initiatives to support those in the technology space no matter what stage they are at in their professional journey.
