RALEIGH, NC (March 1, 2023) – Wake Tech students wowed the judges and won more than 30 medals at the NC American Food Federation (ACF) competition at the Scott Northern Wake Campus.

Students showcased their talent and creativity with stunning wedding cakes and colorful sugar displays.

14 entries won gold medals, 7 entries won silver medals and 13 won bronze medals. All entries are judged on artistry, craft, theme and presentation and scored using the official ACF scale.

Leona Taylor won “Best In” for her cake based on the popular British television series Downtown Abbey.

Carolyn House, director of the Baking and Pastry Arts Program, was impressed with all of their efforts.

“We are so proud of all the hard work and time our students and teachers have put into these artworks. It’s great to see the students competing with their favorite creations.”

The ACF competition is a class project for students in Wake Tech’s associate degree programs in Culinary and Baking and Pastry Arts. Contestants are judged on art, craft, theme and presentation. Winners will receive official ACF medals.

The Baking and Pastry Arts program prepares students to quickly enter the industry in a variety of positions: Baking/Pastry Assistant, Pastry Chef and Assistant Pastry Chef, among others. With experience, graduates can progress from entry-level to pastry chef, cake designer or bakery manager.
