With the lifting of travel restrictions related to Covid-19, Asian countries have been struggling to recover their travel and tourism industries, particularly from Chinese visitors.

Betting on digital platforms is part of South Korea’s plan to attract 30 million foreign tourists by 2027. After reopening to international travel on April 1, 2022, the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) announced measures in December, including the easing of travel restrictions. To attract 30 million tourists by 2027, borders around the world are being eased and reopened due to Covid-19 policies. The tourism organization intends to acquire the number through digital tourism platform services and Korean content storytelling tourism programs.

KTO also announced plans to team up with Metaverse platform Zepetto to design a “Korean Travel Village World” based on eight different travel themes. KTO hopes that the Metaverse space will encourage young people to take a plane and travel to Korea.
