The Central Mountain Small Business Development Center (SBDC) has events planned for the remainder of February and will be conducted in March. Aimed at small businesses in all sectors and at various levels of maturity, most are virtual/online, allowing owners to fit it into their busy calendars.

Lunchtime workshops for all

“Social Media Fluency,” will be available online on Wednesdays at 12:00 p.m. February 22 is part of the Marketing Power Hour series. Most people know from their personal lives that if you let social media, it can drain your energy all day long. According to the organizers of the session, social media can be “a monster or a mouse”.

Yet in all businesses, social media is a vital marketing tool and a powerful way to connect with customers. During this session, “attendees will determine the best channels for their business, review best practices, and share efficiencies to make precious time spent on social media marketing easier and less stressful.” The speaker is Leanne Press, a local business and marketing strategist for 25+ years.

“Recruiting, Hiring and Onboarding. Employee Practices to Reduce Discrimination” runs online from 12:00 am to 1:00 pm on Tuesdays. Feb 28. Acknowledging and minimizing bias is a valuable, learned personal as well as business skill. In addition to being the right thing to do, mitigating bias can help avoid legal and reputational issues, as well as clear smart business practices. The session is sponsored by the Chaffee County Community Foundation.

According to an SDBC announcement, “5 Branches consultant Katie Davis explains where and how leaders can more equitably engage and support new hires in every step of the hiring process – from job posting to onboarding.

Part 3 of the LeanUp Series will be held on Thursday, March 2 from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm at the Scout Hut, 210 East Sackett Street in Salida. Topics for this breakout session include “Startup + Scale Business Development Proforma + Cashflow + Trials.”

This series can help entrepreneurs expand their ideas, or existing businesses quickly plan for high-growth success. Speakers include Jamie Bilsbach, Center Director of Central Mountain SBDC, Kayla Doan – Central Mountain SBDC Consultant and Founder of Wildflower Kombucha, as well as local entrepreneur and consultant Shawn Allison.
