This week, we follow Carolyn MaguireFashion Director at Shopbop As she prepares for fall—back to the kids’ school and fashion week for her. As someone who sets trends for a living, Maguire loves to try those statement pieces in her own wardrobe.

“This is a simple sight for morning fall. It is bright; It is an oversized sweater. The sweater is from AGR, which is based in London, and is new to Shopbop. Knitting is very novel; It suits my beauty. And then it’s back to very simple shorts. These are from Denimist, which is R13’s sister line. I love that they have this acidic tone to them. For shoes, these are Marni slides [also] Very simple. I’m rushing out the door, I always lose track of time. Those slides are hinged, so they’re very comfortable – you’re in and out. for bag, [I wanted] interesting thing. It’s JW Anderson.”

“this is [what I wear] To drink coffee with a friend, catch up, weekend brunch. This bag is amazing. The hacked list is everything. Takes seriously anything—coffee, wipes, hand sanitizer, pajamas, whatever you need. It’s the perfect tot. And that’s if you’re a mom. of To have a bag. I love this twisted sweater from Sea New York paired with Kate ‘Kerry’ jeans. If you like jeans, you they have To buy these jeans. I sized them up, because I don’t like them skin tight. I am obsessed with this pair. Then, I kept more neutral with lace-up shoes. The sunglasses are Isabel Marant. I really like the shade of the lens flare.

“this is [what I wear during] Fashion week – shopping, meeting designers, looking at new brands with my buyers. His friend is a lion. The mini skirt is the Monsieur we all know and love. I am remembering this episode. I paired these super fun Alexander Wang loafers with pant socks. The bag is very good. It’s a small box bag from Acne Studios. It goes with many clothes. Then the tank is a neutral, fitted tank from WSLY, which I layered with some personal charm and a twisted chain.

“This is my go-to outfit when I come home from a busy day at work and want to grab a cup of tea or a glass of wine with my girlfriends. Of course, I’m really into western boots right now; these are from Isabel Marant. This shade is a gorgeous dark oxblood idea, which is very It’s fun. I paired them with these denim shorts, which are R13. The top is Lug Von Siega. They’re known for their dominance. I love the idea of masculine and feminine—Bermuda shorts with a big, very feminine top.

“[This dress] It’s one of my favorites. It is suitable for a summer evening, because it is twisted. This outfit is from Wells Bonner—so excited to finally have it on our site. We are all such fans [designer Grace Wales Bonner]. You can’t tell, but the back is low. I paired it with these super comfy Stuart Whiteman sandals. The pearl detail goes perfectly with the dress. And then there’s that acne bag again, because it goes with everything. And then, of course, Bottega [Veneta] Sunglasses—obsessed with anything Bottega right now. And I really like simple hoops, and these are from Luv Age. I kept the jewelry to a minimum, because the dress is very Wow– Statement piece. Since it’s so hot, this definitely allows the air to filter through, because it’s twisted.

Notes on style:
How would you describe your own sense of personal style?
“I think my personal style is definitely trend-driven, but I like to balance that with something more laid-back and cool — not too tight or heavy. Right now, I’m really into the idea of mixing masculine and feminine. [pieces] together. I’m a big fan of mixing prints. Overall, Shopbop is such a print and color-oriented company, which is definitely up my alley. [I like to be] It’s bold and loud, fun with my style choices.
Tell us about your lifestyle. What kind of things do you need to wear regularly?
“Oh my life is crazy right now. In September, we’re back in work and mom mode. So every day is really different. I tend to keep to my core style DNA, clearly dressing for comfort, but also having fun, and being playful with what I wear. But it really depends on the tasks I have for that day. For example, if it’s the weekend, I’m doing activities with the kids. I’m the soccer mom I never thought I’d be. So I want to make sure my outfit is comfortable, pulled together, but not old or boring. I usually wear denim shorts, if it’s really cool with a big t-shirt or a big sweater. During the work week, when I’m out shopping, or when I’m with editors, I’m brighter than I am for the weekend. I think it’s a day-to-day question of what to wear.
Do you have a uniform?
“A short or super high-waisted, tapered, oversized denim pant from Golde or Goldsing from R13 or Denimist will always be my go-to fun new denim piece. Any denim with a novel touch is my staple. And then I play around with it, like I add a simple t-shirt, but I pile on the necklace. Or a big sweater that’s bright and colorful, and strappy shoes.
You eat, sleep, breathe fashion for your profession, how does that affect the way you get dressed in the morning?
“I take it from my heart. My job, obviously, is very trend-oriented, focusing on new brands, the latest current trends, what we’re looking for in the market, and new designers. We’re seeing them everywhere from designer appointments to street style. I definitely take all of that and apply it.” [to my own wardrobe]. It’s inspiration for my own personal style, like, ‘I’m going to try this. It’s out of the box.’ Then I can bring it back to Shopbop and see if it applies to our customers, because our customers are open to innovation and different ways of dressing things.
What trends are you really excited for this fall?
“Oh my, there are so many. I know it’s scary to say, but the Western is back. I’m really excited about western boots, just because there’s so much you can do with them. Instead of going super cute like a cowboy or cowgirl, dress them up with a mini skirt or really cool pants. Another is a mini dress. Obviously we’re still playing into the mini skirt trend from there. [Miu Miu show]. I’m definitely still excited about the mini dress. And we like to call this idea a daytime drama for failure. It’s all sequins, lurex, diamante — these are the ideas you usually come up with. [associate] with a cocktail [attire], but they wear it for the day, decorated with cool jeans. Or wear a cocktail dress with Converse high tops. And blazers, we always love oversized jackets. Those are fun.”
Completing the look, what’s your usual hair and makeup routine?
Every day my hair is in a messy top knot, because sometimes I just can’t be bothered or it’s loose and down. They are the only two that seem to work for my hair. And then for makeup, I love makeup, but I’m more into my skin routine these days. I think everyone. If I had makeup [product] For the rest of my life, it will be mascara. I think I have tried every kind of mascara out there. Now I use three. It’s MAC by Extreme Dimension Waterproof Mascara. NARS is great, and Marc Jacobs.
