Houghton, Mitch – The conference office, which was unveiled on Friday at the Michigan Tech Clayton Sayen, has been named the recipient of the 2022 Spring GLIAC Commissioner Award. The award was given to six female and six male student-athletes who excelled in class and competition after the spring, summer and spring athletics seasons.
Sayen (Houghton, Mitch) was celebrated for the first time in his career after completing an impressive junior season for the Huskies on track and field (spring) and cross-country (fall). On May 31, Sean was ranked 11th in the men’s 1,500 meters at the NCA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Alandale, Michigan, USTFCCCA Part II All-American. He finished seventh in the 1500 meters in the preliminaries. In the end, he scored 3 hours and 51 points in 64 hours.
He became the 12th Mich Tech Men’s Track and Field Athlete to beat Cyan NCA, the first to enter the last 12 in the 1500 meters.
Earlier this spring, Sean won the 1500m GLIAC Championships in Alandale, Michigan, setting a conference record for the trip. He surpassed the MTU 1500m school record several times in the spring.
Season’s impressive season began in the fall, with Roy Greece winning 8K in September in St. Paul, Minnesota. He set his first time in the 1500m with a time of 45.84 in the Raleigh Relays 3 ፡ and continued to lead the NCA Championship, as well as a time of 800 meters.
He is the sixth Michigan Tech Men’s Athlete-Athlete to win all-American track and field honors. He earned a grade point average of 3.77 in Engineering Management.
