Passenger travel continues to resume at international airports in San Jose and Oakland — but both aviation hubs are below their pre-coronavirus heights.
San Jose International Airport handled just over 821,800 passengers in February, up 34 percent from the same month in 2022, according to a report posted on the airport’s website.
Auckland International Airport handled more than 794,300 passengers in February, a 19 percent increase compared to February 2022, Aviation Complex reported.
Measured in the most recent 12-month period, which ended in February, both airports are showing steady improvement compared to recent years.
Auckland Airport handled 11.5 million passengers in the year ending in February. That’s 4.62 million passengers at the East Bay Aviation Center in 2020, 8.14 million in 2021 and 11.15 million in 2022.
San Jose Airport handled 11.85 million passengers in the 12 months ending in February. That’s more than 4.71 million passengers from the South Bay travel hub in 2020, 7.36 million in 2021 and 11.33 million in 2022.
The fortunes of both airports have taken a nosedive during the coronavirus pandemic amid government-mandated business closures and international travel bans to curb the spread of the deadly bug.
To be sure, passenger traffic at the San Jose and Oakland airports has clearly begun to adjust.
However, the two aviation hubs seem to be facing a difficult road to fully recover from the economic problems caused by the Corona virus.
Both airports They are well below activity levels achieved in 2019, the last full year before the coronavirus shutdown nosedived air travel.
San Jose Airport’s passenger traffic was 24.3% below the number of travelers in the most recent 12 months.
