Samsung has unveiled updated versions of its foldable screen devices, including the popular flip phone Galaxy Z Flip, adding improved cameras, larger screens and slimmer bodies.
The Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4 were unveiled at a live launch event on Wednesday, along with refurbished versions of Samsung’s premium Buds Pro earphones and Galaxy Watch 5 that feature ocean-based plastic.
Galaxy Z Flip 4
The Z Flip 4 is the star of the show, building on the success of last year’s model with a slightly thicker body that surrounds the 6.7in foldable OLED screen on almost every side.
There’s also a faster Android chip from Qualcomm, a bigger battery and an improved pair of 12-megapixel cameras that produce brighter and sharper photos, addressing one of the earlier criticisms. It can also be customized with 75 different color combinations for the frame and glass with matching interface themes.
“In a market where the four corners of the black touchscreen are similar, it makes sense for Samsung to exist for consumers who want something different from the crowd,” said James Manning Smith, senior analyst at CCS Insight. “The Z Flip range has been particularly successful in that context, and we expect the Z Flip4 to help Samsung further its growth ambitions in foldables.

Samsung’s foldable tablet, the Z Fold 4, has also been touted for its thinner bezels, thinner bezels and 8G weight reduction compared to its predecessor.
When the phone is closed, it is short and the external screen helps to use it like a normal smartphone. Android 12L software was developed with Google to improve its foldable form factor and larger 7.6in internal screen, with a more desktop-like experience and many third-party apps like Facebook optimized for the tablet’s size.
The improved cameras on the back bring it on par with the Galaxy S22 series released earlier this year, including a brighter 50MP main camera and a 3x optical zoom camera.
“The Z Fold is a more challenging form-factor and arguably more of an experimental device compared to the Z Flip,” Manning Smith said.
Galaxy Watch 5
Samsung’s smartwatch, which is based on Google Wear OS, has also been updated with the Galaxy Watch 5 and the larger Watch 5 Pro. Both new watches have longer battery life, more scratch-resistant screens and durable bodies, now available in 40mm, 44mm and 45mm cases to fit a wide range of wrists.
A relaunch of Samsung’s smartwatch efforts last year, they track a myriad of health metrics, offering guidance and coaching plans.
Galaxy Buds 2 Pro
Samsung’s flagship Buds 2 Pro headphones are 15% smaller than their compact predecessors, with new pressure vents and an improved shape for better comfort.
The upgraded headphones support 24-bit high-definition audio and noise cancellation, which now removes an additional 3dB of unwanted noise. They also feature Dolby head tracking for immersive movie audio.
