Round Hill City Council is exploring the importance of expanding the city’s main street business district as construction workers work to transform the city center.
The discussion began with a request for the establishment of a doctor’s office in a recently sold house in the north of the city where the city plan will be used for business.
The planning commission, led by the council to investigate and make recommendations, identified 10 properties, possibly expanding the zone to the north, in the former church building on High Street.
Expansion of the business zone in a city plan does not open the property to business. Owners seeking commercial services must apply for a redevelopment process that involves public hearings and allows the city to place conditions on operations.
The council approved the review by 4-1 votes. Deputy Mayor Mary Anne Graham voted against the project because she wanted only property west of the main street to be used for business.
