Rihanna will bring her unrivaled maternity style to Super Bowl 2023.

It’s a bird, it’s a plane, it’s Rihanna floating in the sky! The superstar kicked off her Super Bowl LVI halftime show in Arizona by suspending herself (and her backup dancers) on floating platforms to sing “Bitch Better Have My Money.” It was an impressive start to her first live performance in several years. And Bad Gal Riri never disappoints with her sounds and fashions. She broke the internet by flaunting her baby bump and announced to the world that she is now expecting her second child with A$AP Rocky, cheering her on from the sidelines. (The couple welcomed a son in May last year.)

Styled by Jahlil Sheman — responsible for many of the star’s memorable red carpet looks — Rihanna’s red Super Bowl outfit included a Lowe’s jumpsuit with a sculpted bra, as well as a custom bright red leather maxi puffy coat designed by Alaia by Peter Mulier. Fashion fans online are discussing how similar the outerwear looks to the clothes worn by the late fashion editor and style icon Andre Leon Talley, although it’s unclear whether it’s a direct nod to him.

It doesn’t take a genius to figure out why Rihanna went all-red ensemble for this big performance. Among other things, the color can represent courage, love and energy. Not to mention, it easily commands attention.

Rihanna’s ad also heralds the return of super-cool maternity style. (Remember when she got pregnant with her first child wearing a rare Chanel coat?) She’s clearly thought about comfort for the performance (maternity duty) right down to her MM6 Maison Margiela X Salomon high-top sandals. We can’t wait to see how the mom-to-be flips it. Once she defies the rules and inspires moms everywhere to wait – we’re ready for round two!
