New Delhi, August 6: Prabha Khaitan Foundation, India and Grammy Award winner Ricky Cage are pleased to announce #ReWear4Earth, a new initiative focusing on fashion and sustainability.
The initiative came after Grammy Award winner Ricky Cage tweeted pictures of himself wearing the same outfit earlier this year – when he won the Grammy Awards in Las Vegas and on the Cannes red carpet with the hashtag #ReWear4Earth.
Prabha Khaitan Foundation, a non-profit organization based in Kolkata (India) that works towards sustainable development and awareness of India’s ecosystem and biodiversity, has decided to meet the Grammy Award winner to launch this campaign.
For decades, repeating clothes for galas and events was considered a fashion faux pas – encouraging people to change clothes for each event, making clothes ‘single use’.
Now is the time to change that narrative. It is time to consider our planet in this calculation. Fashion can be trendy more than once. We should buy a few clothes and wear them again and again, with pride.
Fast fashion is not always fashionable. Especially when we consider the impact on our planet (the fashion industry is one of the most polluting industries on the planet).
Toxic textile dyes, cheap materials and high water usage translate into environmental pollution and degradation. In addition, microplastics and chemical pollutants are released from fabrics and find their way into the oceans.
Microplastics play a major role in killing over 100 million marine animals and over 1 million seabirds each year. Most fabrics today are not fully biodegradable and end up in landfills or in the oceans. The Prabha Khaitan Foundation and Grammy Award winner Ricky Cage have asked everyone to wear costumes for different occasions and do their part to reduce the damage to the earth. (agencies)
