KAnsas City Fashion Week is getting a boost thanks to the national fashion initiative and the relaunch of the organization behind the popular event series – led by a renowned veteran of the KC fashion community.
Kansas City Fashion Council – Produced Kansas City Fashion Week — announced Thursday that it has rebranded as the Fashion Arts Fund with Jennifer Lapka, a longtime Kansas City entrepreneur and fashion leader, spearheading its fundraising efforts, promoting its programs and building its team.
What is Kansas City Fashion Week?
Each year, Kansas City Fashion Week features two full weeks of premier runway shows and related events. The selected designers collaborate with stylists, models and photographers to present their collections in a professional setting, leading to sales and other opportunities.
In the year “I’m excited to bring my passion for the apparel industry and entrepreneurial experience to launch the Fashion Art Fund and develop its new initiatives,” said Lapka, a consultant to the organization who founded the Kansas City fashion startup in 2015. It is now offered through the New Fashion Arts Fund.
“FAF’s relationship with CFDA CONNECTS will result in incredible partnerships and opportunities,” said Lapka. “So I will continue to work to bring national and international attention to the Kansas City fashion and art community. My passion for this is as strong as ever.”
Kansas City Fashion Council Inc. It was started as a charity in 2014 by Philip Willoughby and Tisha Barber, organizers of Kansas City Fashion Week.
They were passionate about creating a close-knit community where designers, retailers, hairdressers, makeup artists, photographers and models could meet year-round. In particular, it offers networking events, fashion design competitions and professional photo shoots.
“During the pandemic, we paused the Kansas City Fashion Council, which gave us an opportunity to carefully consider future initiatives,” Barber said. “Our fashion community and its needs are very different now than they were eight years ago.”
