Qatar Airways is always pushing the envelope. The airline’s business class suites – dubbed Qsuites – are easily some of the best in the world. The same is true of the super-funny Al Morjan Business Class Lounge at Doha (DOH) Terminal.
But now Qatar has opened itself up. The airline opened the doors to its new business class lounge on Thursday. Al Mourjan Business Lounge – Garden. This brand-new lounge is located near the C Concourse in Doha Airport’s North Extension. In conjunction with the Al Morjan Lounge, which will remain open in the center of the airport, it could double the square footage for business class passengers.
From the airport’s new (though familiar…) garden called the Orchard, the garden lounge looks amazing.
The venue’s architecture may be a not-so-subtle knock-off of the decorative complex at the beloved Singapore (SIN) airport, but this lounge is clearly one of a kind. While most airlines build lounges of 5,000 to 10,000 square feet — maybe 20,000 square feet, if you’re really lucky — that’s on another scale.
The Garden Lounge measures 79,500 square feet, not much smaller than the Al Morjan Lounge. Nearly 200,000 square feet of lounge real estate may seem like overkill, but with the number of business-class passengers flocking to the lounge during Doha’s peak travel periods, Qatar may need every inch of it.
But it’s not just the square footage that stands out, it’s what Qatar is doing in that space. Here’s a taste of what travelers can expect in this new hall:
- 24 single or double lounge suites, up to six hours free for business class passengers
- Shower rooms and bathrooms
- A real gym in the living room, with treadmills, elliptical machines and locker rooms
- A spa with specialized manicure and pedicure stations, neck and shoulder massage chairs and other treatment rooms.
- Nearly half a dozen dining options, from sushi stations and made-to-order poke bowls, barista bars for freshly brewed coffee drinks, cocktail bars and more.
Almost anyone with Qatar Airways business class fares can check in, whether you use Qatar Avios or a partner program like American Advantage miles or British Airways. But if you’re paying cash, beware: Qatar now sells a “basic” business class called “Lite” that comes without free seat selection… or lounge access.
A trip to the Qsuites that puts you in one of the world’s best business class salons only seems right.
Akbar Al Baker, the airline’s chief executive, said in a statement: “At Qatar Airways, excellence is embedded at the core of our brand, and as we continue to evolve our offerings, we continue to strive to provide our passengers with the best experiences in aviation and hospitality.” press release. “This world-class salon epitomizes a sophisticated way of traveling centered around comfort, safety and nature.”
at last
The world’s No. 1 shopping airline can’t seem to help itself. It is always to raise the level.
In fact, that’s what the new Business Class Lounge in Doha does. The new Al Morjan Business Class Lounge – The Garden looks fantastic, spacious and full of amenities. We’re excited to check it out for ourselves and see if it’s even half as good as it looks.
