The Prescott Office of Tourism, Experience Prescott, is celebrating National Travel and Tourism Week from May 7-13, 2023.
Experience Prescott is the official destination marketing organization for the city. Experience Prescott works to assist tourism stakeholders in an ongoing effort to raise awareness of the destination, to explore, shop, eat, play and stay. Every year, the tourism office prepares a marketing and public relations plan to show the community throughout the year.
Local tourism stakeholders include lodging, restaurants, retailers, museums, and attractions. The Official Visitor Center at the Prescott Chamber works with Experience Prescott to showcase the many wonderful properties Prescott has to offer. “We really couldn’t do it without our partners,” said Tourism and Economic Initiatives Manager Ann Steward. We especially want to recognize our hospitality professionals who are true ambassadors for our destination.
Tourism to Prescott means recreational travelers from Arizona and around the world who want to experience our wonderful outdoors and our historic downtown. Plus sports tournaments, business meetings, events, educational sessions, retreats and more. All of these activities bring visitors to Prescott and generate tax revenue for the city.
Travel acts as a catalyst for the productive US economy and helps the success of other industries. The US travel industry will generate $2.6 trillion in economic output by 2022, supporting 15 million jobs and supporting communities, small businesses and working families across the country.
Travel spending generated nearly $160 billion in federal, state, and local taxes by 2022—revenues that help fund critical public services and save each American household an average of $1,270 in taxes.
Locally, tourism dollars improve the quality of life for our entire community. Revenue generated by the transient lodging (bed tax) provides more than $300,000 annually to support local non-profit community events, the Summer Concert Series Downtown, 4th of July Fireworks, World’s Oldest Rodeo, Courthouse Lighting and more. Additionally, bed tax revenues help fund improvements to recreational facilities such as Lower Goldwater Lake, Granite Creek Corridor improvements and more.
