This is the first time that Balmain has explored NFC technology, and as a luxury brand, we are happy to continue to innovate by offering our customers an exciting and collectible experience, making our brand more accessible than ever before. Balmain creative director Olivier Rousteing said in a press release.

This digital and physical collaboration will allow fans to enjoy a highly personalized in-game Pokemon-themed experience, the company says.

The Balmain x Pokemon collaboration works on the following levels.

Cameron Worth, CEO and Founder of Internet of Things (IoT) solutions provider SharpEnd, which is involved in the partnership, said: “We are using NFC to create unique opportunities for fans to enjoy the game experience – enabling Balmain to continue to push boundaries and unlock new ways to reward customers.

“The experience is designed around pre- and post-purchase, so store fans can come in and enjoy a pre-purchase/pre-claim experience and get some digital content. Once you’ve checked in and asked if you’ve purchased an NFC patch or a Balmain jacket, you can check out using your smartphone,” Worth told Benzinga.
