2022 CFDA Fashion Awards Nominees and Honorees – WWD

The Council of Fashion Designers of America, in partnership with Amazon Fashion, has announced the nominees and honorees for the 2022 CFDA Fashion Awards.

The event will take place on November 7 at Casa Cipriani on Cipriani South Street in Manhattan.

Competing for American Womenswear Designer of the Year are Kathryn Holstein LeKite, Christopher John Rogers (2021 winner), Gabriella Hearst, Laquan Smith and Peter Doe.

American Menswear Designer of the Year are Emily Bode Aujla for Bode (2021 winner), Jerry Lorenzo for Fear of God, Mike Amiri for Amiri, Thom Browne for Thom Browne New York and Willy Chavarria.

The nominees for American Accessory Designer of the Year are: Aurora James for Brother Vellis, Brandon Blackwood, Raul Lopez for LuR, Stuart Vevers for Coach and Telfar Clemens for Telfar (2021 winner).

American Designer of the Year nominees are Bach My, Carly Marks for Toys & Dolls, Coleman Delaney for KidSuper, Elena Velez and Lauren Harwell Godfrey for Harwell Godfrey.

The Board of Trustees Award is presented posthumously to Virgil Abloh to honor the late designer’s contribution to international fashion. Abloh, artistic director of Louis Vuitton’s menswear collection and CEO of Off-White, died on November 21, 2021.

Lenny Kravitz, singer-songwriter, record producer and actor, will be honored with the CFDA 2022 Fashion Icon Award.

The Positive Social Impact Award goes to Slay House starring Prabal Gurung, Laura Kim, Philip Lim, Tina Ling and Ezra Williams.

The Founder’s Award, in honor of Eleanor Lambert, will be awarded to Andrew Bolton, chief curator of the Wendy Yue Institute of Costume at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Laurie Lynn Stark and Richard Stark of Chrome Hearts will receive the Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award.

The Media Award in honor of Eugenia Sheppard goes to Patty Wilson, Fashion Stylist.

The Environmental Sustainability Award is given to the United Nations and is presented by United Nations Under-Secretary-General Amina J.

This year, the CFDA will introduce a new Stylist Award. The first recipient is Lau Roach, who has worked with celebrities such as Zendaya, Lewis Hamilton, Hunter Shaffer, Halsey and Venus Williams, among others.

To celebrate CFDA’s 60th anniversary, the organization is adding a special one-time annual award to long-time CFDA member Jeffrey Banks.

Additional award recipients will be named in the coming weeks.

“The 2022 CFDA Fashion Awards will celebrate the best and brightest talent in American fashion, but will also mark CFDA’s 60th anniversary,” said CFDA CEO Steven Kolb. “This year’s nominees reflect the renewed excitement around American fashion created by designers who are shaping the future of our industry. Nominations for each award category are presented by the CFDA Fashion Awards Association, made up of CFDA members, along with leading fashion retailers, journalists and stylists.

To celebrate CFDA’s 60th anniversary, the awards will be hosted by CFDA members Joseph Altuzarra, Gabriela Hearst, Aurora James, Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCall.
