OC Fashion Week® executive producer Kathryn Marino is celebrating her 10-year anniversary with OCFW® at World Peace Lake in Aliso Viejo after kicking off the season last September 6-10. Another celebration of OC Fashion Week®’s 10-year anniversary is the return of Coral Castillo, the first Orange County designer to win the Designer of the Year award. Since then, the designer’s appearance on Bravo’s Project Runway has brought her craft even more retail recognition.

Born in Mexico City, Coral discovered her passion for designing clothes at an early age. Her mother was a dressmaker and Coral grew up exposed to fine fabrics and custom clothing. In the year In 2005, Coral started designing for select clients, without any guidelines or fashion. After deciding to pursue her passion, she studied fashion design at the California Institute of the Arts – San Francisco.

She graduated with a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Fashion Design, earning honors and winning the Fall 2012 Portfolio Award. In 2009, she won the best result at the Art Institute of California-San Francisco fashion show. Other awards include Best Women’s Daywear for Divine 2009 and 2010, 1st place in a design competition for OC-Fashion Week in 2011, and in 2013 Coral was recognized as one of the best designers in Orange County. In the year In 2019, Coral won the Moss Adams Fashion Innovation Award. In the year In 2018, Coral participated in the series STITCHED and ended up as the winner of episode 5. Most recently, Coral was a Project RUNWAY S19 finalist. Her work has been published in ELLE us, VOGUE Italia, VOGUE UK, WWD, APPAREL NEWS, San Francisco Chronicle and Los Angeles Times.
