Hazelslade, England – High red shirt sophomore Alessia Nobilio The England Women’s Amateur Stroke Play Championship was won in playoff fashion at Baw Desert Golf Club on Sunday. Representing her native Italy, Nobilio birdied the third extra hole to defeat Denmark’s Christina Tuber.

Nobilio, who shot 74-68-74-71 for the tournament, birdied the 71st and 72nd holes to tie Tauber at +7 to go to the extra holes.

To get to that point, Nobilio was tasked with an up-and-down finish on the par-5 18th hole, hitting her next shot into a green-side bunker.

“I was very nervous on the 18th. I knew I had that chance (to force a playoff),” Nobilio said. “I hit the green and missed it, but I thought I could make a birdie because I’m good at bunker shots.”

She just dropped an eight-foot putt.

Nobilio clinched the win on the par-4 1st with a 20-foot birdie putt from under and over the hill on the third extra play hole. Nobilio claimed the silverware in front of her father, Alfonso Nobilio, who watched her compete for two years.

Nobilio said: “I wish I spent more time with him on the golf course. I grew up with him on the course and it’s a big credit to him. I want to dedicate this win to my grandfather Dante, who has been unwell lately, and also to my mother Chiara, who I know cheered me on from Italy!”

This was Nobilio’s first win of the season her sophomore year.
