Specialty chocolates, fudge and ice cream purveyors Kilwins may have just opened in Blue Back Square, but they’ve already stepped in to support the West Hartford community by agreeing to sponsor the Old Guard’s – West Hartford YMCA “Swing”. For Kids” charity golf tournament.

The 9-hole tournament will be played on May 16 at Stanley Golf Course in New Britain. Lunch, prizes, raffles and auctions will follow at Nine Tavern in Stanley.

Old Guard member Ron Robinson, a Kilwins aficionado long before they came to West Hartford, worked closely with local Kilwins owners Kathleen and Joe Allen on the event’s sponsorship. The tournament will donate 100% of the net proceeds raised to the West Hartford YMCA Camp Scholarship Fund. The fund was created to help families with children who are financially challenged and want to enjoy and take advantage of all that the camps have to offer.

The agreement was reached on St. Patrick’s Day, giving Kathleen, who is Irish, an extra “incentive” to celebrate the day! With this new partnership, was the Irish lucky for the Old Guard or was it a good deal to help disadvantaged children in our community? Sometimes, even Irish Luck takes a backseat to other less fortunate fellow community members.

Why is this so important to Kathleen? Because she’s giving to the “Y” in honor of being a recipient of a camp scholarship earlier in life. Having been doing this in our community since 1966, Patron is well aware of the importance of “giving back”. The Old Conservancy is home to Habitat for Humanity, Yukon Health Center, Salvation Army, Food Share, Meals on Wheels and “Way.”

See you at Kilwins!
