WNY P-TECH recently held its annual National Honor Society induction ceremony. The event featured seven inductees and included guest speakers from Bush Industries, P-TECH alumni Whitney Hiss ’21 of Dunkirk and Hope Smith ’22 of Jamestown.

Hiss, space planning manager, and Smith, engineering technician, attended representing Bush Industries. The company currently employs three WNY P-TECH graduates and has opened the door to more career opportunities for students, leading it to be named the 2023 WNY P-TECH Business Partner of the Year.

“We joined PTech with the idea that it was blooming and growing, but we joined it with dreams and hopes, to leave our regular schools, and to be part of a new family and a new way of thinking. I commend the students here for taking that step and changing their future.” Hayes said. “P-TECH opened doors for me that I thought were impossible at the time and through P-Tech I was able to easily find work in our area.”

Those inducted at NHS include Rebecca DeYoung of Silver Creek, Dominic McDonald-Abraham and Jared Seck of Dunkirk, Nathaniel Valiente and Ethan Warblow of Jamestown, Marcus Williams of Lake Shore and Nicholas Williams of Holland.

“I remember being in the same place with the new NHS inductees a few years ago, and looking back I remember the amazing opportunities and experiences I was able to get through P-TECH and the Honorable Society. Through the NHS, I have been able to participate in a number of fundraisers and events and benefit from the offerings at P-TECH.

Following the candlelight ceremony and the NHS pledge, Dominic“DJ” Macdonald-Abraham briefly shared his experience of enrolling in the program.

“I love being a P-Tech student. Words cannot describe the impact it has had on my life. he said. “I’ve been blessed with so many opportunities and STEM knowledge.”
