Houghton, Mich – Michigan Tech scored early and often in a comfortable 76-44 victory over University of Finland at SDC Gymnasium on Saturday night. The Huskies improved to 10-2 overall and remained undefeated at home (7-0) in regular-season play for the second time in 10 years against the Lions.

Three players reached double figures for Tech: Eli McKay and Sloane Zenner with 14 points each and Alex Rohndorff with 11. Zenner helped the Huskies to a 28-7 first quarter start from the three-point arc and finished 4-for-6. Day from downtown.

Natalie Bartle had a strong game with 24 points, eight rebounds and four steals, but the rest of the team shot just 8-for-46 from the field and shot 24 percent with zero 3-pointers. Makes 10 attempts.

“There are definitely things we can work on, but I was happy with the win tonight,” head coach Sam Clayton said.

MTU outrebounded FinniU 48-37, including 10 offensive rebounds. Finland managed 15 turnovers compared to Tech’s characteristic 18.

Clayton, which led 48-20 at halftime, moved several non-starters in and out of the lineup over the final 20 minutes of play.

Emma Anderson came off the bench for five points and Maryellen Trewla played 10 minutes and had four rebounds. Lydia Shabil totaled three points.

“We just kept pushing ourselves, not looking at who was in and out of the lineup,” Schable said. “The paint touches were coming in. When we can get the ball in the middle, that opens up shooters like we saw tonight with Sloane.”

With their fourth straight win and seven of eight, Michigan Tech now has 12 days off for the holidays. The team hits the road to face No. 2 Ashland (9-0) on Thursday, Dec. 29 at 5:30 p.m., followed by Walsh on Saturday, Dec. 31.

Finland fell to 4-8 overall with their third straight loss. The Lions will face UW-River Falls and St. Catharines in Superior, Wisconsin on Dec. 30-31.
