Minimal jewelry was on trend on the Golden Globes red carpet.

After a few years of hiatus – due to Covid and controversies – the Golden Globes returned to their full glory last night, welcoming us with a dazzling array of red-carpet glamour. And, while we’ve seen plenty of ball gowns and more than a few sequins, when it comes to jewelry, toned-down, subtle and minimal accessories seem to be the trend of the night.

For a Hollywood award show like this, it’s usually the stunning, jaw-dropping jewels that roll in for the night (often standing not far from the bodyguard). And, while stars including Rihanna and Lily James sported huge, eye-catching diamonds, most on the red carpet opted for something more low-key.

Jessica Chastain, Margot Robbie, Daisy Edgar-Jones, Michelle Williams, Anna de Armas and Hannah Bagshawe all chose to wear minimal, understated jewellery.

For Robbie, Edgar-Jones and Williams, their dresses were fussy – tulle, lace, ruffles – and so they kept their accessories minimal with earrings, tennis bracelets or, in Robbie’s case, just a single diamond. Ring.

De Armas, meanwhile, wore one statement piece — a diamond bangle by Louis Vuitton — but that was it. Dressed in a strapless gown, her neck was clearly bare, helping to tone down her look.

Jessica Chastain followed a similar format. Usually one to embrace all things glitz on the red carpet, the actress didn’t have any special jewelry. She did not wear earrings or necklace. Her dress may be high octane, but her ensemble is positively transformative. The same can be said for Hannah Bagshawe, who teamed her loud – but simple – Valentino gown with no sparkles.

Is the minimalist approach to red carpet jewelry a response to the cost-of-living crisis? Or is it just a delicate and beautiful piece of jewelry that they created for these special looks?

As the first major award of the year, it may be too soon to tell, but we feel that the understated, refined and everyday diamond trend is definitely on our way.
