Kachita Hynes, a fashion stylist, told The List about Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex’s choice to wear a black Stella McCartney dress and what psychological implications it had for the Duchess when she wore it. “A cape dress can give you the extra length in your spine to make you stand tall and feel powerful, but in reality you can feel like you need a hug for a long time,” Hynes told us. In a time of mourning and the ongoing conflict and tension between the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and the rest of the royal family, a hug might feel good.

Hynes noted that the funeral was seen around the world and that those affected went beyond the royal family. “As the royal family, as a nation and as the world mourns and honors Queen Elizabeth II, we all need to remember that this is a time of unity and strength. I believe all women in the royal family are called to be strong,” Hynes said. “As we watch history unfold before our eyes, these are the images we all remember. And when you look closely at each image, I believe we can see descriptions. [that are] Subtle but true.”
