London – Matthias Bovan is joining the Milan Fashion Week schedule.
Yorkshire-based designer Bovan will present his spring 2023 collection on the official calendar, with the support of Dolce & Gabbana, which will provide fabrics and materials.
Bovan graduated from Central Saint Martins in 2015 with an MA in Fashion Knitwear. Their graduate collection opened the final show at the University of Fashion where Bovan received the L’Oréal Professionel Creative Award, followed by the prestigious LVMH Graduate Award of €10,000 and the Junior Designer placement at Louis Vuitton by Nicolas Gisquière.
“Craftsmanship is at the heart of my work, something that this iconic Mason and I have a great affinity for. The collaboration with Domenico and Stefano has been amazing recently,” Bovan said in a statement, adding, “I’m still researching their archives and processing the idea of mixing their historical work with my new output next spring. I can already feel the turbo charge of this union.
Bovan’s avant-garde high design approach has secured deals with the likes of Coach, working on various accessory projects since 2016. A series of clothed mannequins and a series of clothed Barbie dolls in collaboration with Miu Miu.
In the year 2022 was Bovan’s biggest collection of the fall season, titled Cyclone, which was “violence and destruction – even beauty – after the power.” Model Irina Shayk opened Bova’s show in a reworked Roksanda Ilinci gown.
In the year Since opening Fashion Week at the Creative Center at Fashion East in 2017, Bovan has held solo shows at London Fashion Week and landed his designs in Matchesfashion and No30 in Milan.
Bova’s unconventional aesthetic brings freshness to Milan’s otherwise traditional and star-studded schedule.
