Senior Andre Medina made a 25-yard field goal with 3 1/2 minutes left in the fourth quarter to lift Mater Dei over host Bishop Gorman 24-21 in a high school football showcase on Friday in Las Vegas, Nev.
The tournament highlighted the talents of quarterback Elijah Brown and the Royals’ young defense.
Brown, a junior, threw three touchdowns to rally the Monarchs (2-0), ranked second in the nation by MaxPreps.
Bishop Gorman (1-1), ranked No. 6 in the nation by MaxPreps, led 14-7 at halftime and 21-14 entering the fourth quarter.
Brown, who improved to 19-0 as a rookie, threw a 31-yard touchdown pass to a diving Marcus Harris on third-and-21 to make it 21-21 with 10:39 left. The fourth session.

Sophomore linebacker Nasir White helped lead the Kings’ defense with three sacks.
